How to Reduce Skin Redness

Skin redness on the face is caused by a variety of factors, with some of the most common being rosacea (a skin condition), over-exfoliating, retinol overuse, inflammation, dry skin, and changes in weather, among others. With so many potential causes, you might be wondering: Can I reduce the redness on my face? We’re happy to tell you the answer is yes! And if your next question is, how can I fix my red skin naturally, we’re already a step ahead of you. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite skincare products and tools to soothe facial skin redness. Read on to learn more about the different ways Skin Gym can help you reduce skin redness.

  1. Face Masks

Face masks are an easy way to immediately calm and soothe skin redness. Make sure to choose a mask that has at least one redness-reducing ingredient. We love the Skin Camp Weekender Mask because it contains niacinamide, which is known to decrease the redness and blotchiness of the skin. It’s also packed with hyaluronic acid – a hydrating ingredient that also combats redness – antioxidants, and camellia oil. If you’re more of a sheet mask kinda gal, the AfterParty Hydra-Gel Pink Mask is packed with green tea extract, a known anti-inflammatory with properties that decrease redness and soothe the skin, and hyaluronic acid. Other ingredients to look for when choosing a mask to reduce redness are vitamins A, C, and E and aloe vera.

  1. Cold Therapy

Cold Therapy is another effective way to combat facial skin redness. The cold temperature shrinks the blood vessels flowing to the surface of your skin, therefore reducing redness. One of our favorite skin cooling tools is the Skin Gym IceCoolie Roller. It increases circulation and reduces redness in the skin. The stainless-steel roller is cold on its own, or you can pop it into the freezer a few minutes before use to get it extra chilly. This ice roller is travel-friendly, so you never have to worry about being left in the red. This is one instance where being an ice queen is a cool(ie) thing.

  1. LED Light Therapy

LED light therapy, specifically red-light therapy stimulates collagen, which has been known to reduce skin redness. Revilit LED Light Therapy is a wireless handheld tool that has 3 LED light colors, including red to target any area of skin redness on the face. If you’d rather treat the whole face at once, the Wrinklit LED Mask is also wireless and features red LED light therapy (along with orange and blue) to soothe skin and bring radiance to your complexion

  1. Microneedling

If rosacea is the main cause of facial skin redness, microneedling should be your go-to at-home remedy. It isn’t a curative treatment, but it will help you treat the redness at a superficial level. Try the Skin Gym Glowie Micro-Derma 192 Roller and glide it all over your clean dry face to stimulate and strengthen collagen and increase the density of the epidermis – which lessens the appearance of redness. With consistent micro-needling, you’ll be seeing less redness on your face and feeling less blue.

Other Ways to Reduce Skin Redness

Here are a few things to try to reduce facial redness in addition to skincare products and tools:

  • Avoid harsh physical exfoliants and scrubs as well as ingredients like retinol, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid that irritate the skin.
  • Try an anti-inflammatory diet with lots of leafy greens.
  • Stay away from alcohol and spicy foods.
