Model Beauty Routine: Taina Madera

Tell us about yourself?

I was born and raised in New York City, I moved out to Los Angeles when I was seventeen bushy-tailed to be an Angelino. My parents are both artists. My dad is a cinematographer, my mom a stylist. Needless to say, I grew up admiring models and actresses but I didn’t decide I wanted to start modeling until I was twenty. I am one of the many young women of our day in age that battles hormonal acne, three years ago I suffered from a breakout that hindered my self-esteem. Anyone who has or is experiencing severe acne can understand the emotional ramifications having acne can induce. In my case, it was life changing. I was so determined to treat my skin that I found a love for body and skin care. I am now a chemistry major minoring in nutrition, I’m hoping to one day produce my own skin care line!

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty of course has many interpretation, to me beauty is a feeling of happiness, excitement and love. Whether that’s towards myself on a great hair day, the laugh of a loved one, or a drive down the PCH. Beauty surrounds us and is us. I do my best to notice every day!

How does skincare fit into your lifestyle as a model?

Skincare has become a bonus to my modeling career. I already love trying new routines and products to improve my skin texture. Seeing my skin glow on camera is such a reward.

What's your go-to ingredient in your favorite skincare?

My go-to ingredient is Hyaluronic Acid(HA), nothing will hydrate your skin better! It’s perfect for all skin types -oily,dry, combination. It’s pairs well with retinols, vitamins, and other acids.

A little goes a long way!

What is your favorite Skin Gym beauty tool?

Skin Gym is my favorite brand to get beauty tools from, I am obsessed with their Youth Haus-Golden face mask that contains Hyaluronic acid & Retinol. If you’re trying these acids for the first time Skin Gyms golden glow is a great way to start! I also use their jade roller and Gua sha face lifting tools. An amazing incorporation for a detailed skincare day.

What products & tools do you include in your skincare routine?

First,I’d like to point out. You do not need an expensive skin care routine to have amazing skin. Less is more, I have many products some of which you can get from your local pharmacy.

For example, CeraVe has a fabulous cleanser and moisturizer for less than twenty dollars.

Neutrogena makes an amazing sunscreen that doesn’t clog your pores for fifteen. The Ordinary brand , has all the acids and retinol you could want for a fraction of the price. These are just a few products I use that are affordable, last a long time, and most importantly do the job!

What is your hero product or tool?

I’m sure I’m not the first to recommend this, Aztec clay mask! Hands down, number one hero product. I mix it with apple cider vinegar to make it extremely powerful but water works too. It’s a popular product, You can pick it up at your local pharmacy.

Any latest beauty trends you’re currently loving?

A trend that I am absolutely in love with right now is, bio-cotton and makeup removers. If you haven’t heard of them. The brand I buy is from daily concepts. They are reusable cotton pads that remove your makeup effortlessly. Say goodbye to wasteful makeup wipes and irritated skin!

Where do you go to find beauty tips & tricks?

Blogs and YouTube is where I find most of my information. It usually starts with a product I’m interested in using and expands from there.

What is your go-to for relaxing after a long day?

Face masks and wine! I am a sucker for a good face mask, I have a range of options for each day of the week, the wine is for additional pleasure of course:)

What is one skincare secret you are willing to give away?

Do your research and start simple. It can be easy to get swept away by all the options the skin care world has to offer but remember no one's skin is the same. What works for me, may not work for you and that’s okay!  Don’t be afraid to keep trying products and definitely hold on to what works.
