Model Beauty Routine: Sarah Trott
Sarah Trott is a model, journalist, and podcaster based in Los Angeles. Skin Gym reached out to find out why skincare is important to her and what exactly is in her skincare routine. Let's find out!
Tell us about yourself?
Hi guys! My name is Sarah and I currently live in Los Angeles. I started modeling after leaving my day job in TV news as a reporter and weekend morning anchor. Now I channel my creative passions and love for journalism into my new career as a model, health and fitness influencer and podcaster.
What does beauty mean to you?
This definition has changed for me as I've grown and gained more life experience. As a little girl, I thought beauty meant being the prettiest, most popular person and being well liked by everyone. Like many women, I too fell under the spell of seemingly unattainable standards of beauty. In college I struggled with my weight, poor eating habits and lacked proper fitness and nutrition all together. It took a lot of inner strength and will power to make such dramatic lifestyle changes -- not just because I disliked the way I looked, but the way I felt. After years of hard work, I'm finally at a place where I'm happy and confident. Beauty isn't just an outward thing, it's loving yourself enough to demand more and work hard to create a better, happier version of you. If you feel good about yourself on the inside, that will shine through on the outside.
How does skincare fit into your lifestyle as a model?
Smart skincare is essential for everyone, especially as a model too. Breakouts or damaged skin can cost you a shoot -- so it's always a priority on my radar. It's also something I honestly struggle with from time to time. I have acne scars and spots from my teenage years as well as pretty consistent redness and puffiness -- like every morning when I wake up it seems...! The best way is to stay consistent -- no matter how tired I am I never fall asleep in my makeup. I'm always bringing sunscreen with me wherever I go -- even in winter or on cloudy days -- to protect my face, neck and chest from age spots and sun damage. You can fake a lot of things in life -- hair, nails, implants, injections... but you only get one skin to live in for life!
What's your go-to ingredient in your favorite skincare?
Hyaluronic Acid! This is a MUST for me especially living in a dry climate like Los Angeles. My skin is a combination of dry + oily so this is always a fine balance for me to avoid breakouts from being too hydrated. I also look for products that moisturize deeply and add an extra boost to the skin -- like hyaluronic acid or collagen.
What is your favorite Skin Gym beauty tool?
My favorite Skin Gym beauty tool is hands down the face rollers! My trick is to freeze my face roller and use it first thing when I wake up with my morning coffee. The cold temperature helps decrease puffiness, especially under the eyes, increase blood flow, and most importantly wake me right up!
What products & tools do you include in your skincare routine?
I use face rollers, microrollers and dermablades. It's super, super important to sanitize these products in alcohol to avoid breakouts because these products are designed to unclog pores. These tools can be a double edged sword! I find if I go overboard, my skin will freak out and break out. Introducing too many new things at once, especially on a delicate place like your face, isn't always a good idea.
What is your hero product or tool?
Sunscreen! I can't stress this enough. So dang important to take care of your skin.
Any latest beauty trends you’re currently loving?
Currently loving brow lamination -- basically a perm for your brows to give them the soft, feathery look. Big brows are my jam. I'm also really into CBD infused anything -- especially when it comes to relaxation and stress management.
Where do you go to find beauty tips & tricks?
I mostly stumble upon beauty hacks on Instagram from my favorite influencers -- which is why I think it's so important for models and bloggers to work with brands they truly trust and legitimately use on their own too.
What is your go-to for relaxing after a long day?
Hands down a nice bubble bath with epsom salt. Candles, red wine and hot steam cures all!
